SHIM Hye-jung's new film Flowers of mold shows a somewhat different world from her debut film A Bedsore (2019), dealing with a patriarchal family relationship and care work with a sharp eye. Jisu tries to discover others' dispositions and tastes through their garbage. This film explores the relationship between people and the other side of love, an exceptional relationship in present-day society. Jisu's behavior of rummaging through waste results from a professional motive as a marketer , but it is also an essential condition for communicating with others in a world where people judge a book only by its cover, as in the line in the film “man-made garbage reveals the truth about them.” Flowers of mold is a story about a person who, discarded like garbage by her lover, struggles to overcome the trauma. Kim Jae-kyung, a member of the former K-pop girl group Rainbow, gives an impressive performance. (MOON Seok)
