From You is an apparent extension of SHIN Dongmin’s debut film, Mom’s Song (2020). As far as exploring the affectionate yet terrible relationship called family is concerned, combining three short stories that are related yet but difficult to see as a series work, and the fact that director SHIN Dongmin’s actual mother, Kim Hyejung, plays the mother here, the two films are along the lines of the same context. Besides, in the third part, SHIN Dongmin himself plays the son, and the whole production process of the film is delivered through a conversation with a viewer within the film, which shows the enhancement of the film’s hybrid documentary qualities. The three stories in the movie are all stand-alone but are closely connected and intertwined peculiarly. However, as none of the three stories can be the original of the others, they are interwoven, like the Möbius strip. The film even gives the impression of exploring a parallel universe. (MOON Seok)
