The figure and importance of Jonas Mekas in the history of cinema is so great that even if we omit all his films, his name would still be relevant. Through his work as a programmer, critic, and diffuser, from the pages of Film Journal and his column in the Village Voice, and as creator of the Anthology Film Archive, he enabled countless experimental filmmakers to publicize their works and gain recognition. Jonas Mekas dreamed of a personal cinema, a cinema that would represent whoever made it and the world close to him. Using the camera to record moments like taking personal notes in a diary and that's what he did with his films. The documentary by filmmaker KD DAVISON builds an intimate portrait of Mekas through interviews with his family, collaborators, and other artists who admire his work, and never-before-seen material from Mekas himself, someone who with his films managed to capture those ‘fragments of paradise’ to which the title of this film references.
