In 2007, a nineteen-year-old girl Reyhaneh Jabbari was arrested for the murder of a middle-aged man named Sarbandi, a former Iranian intelligence personnel. Jabbari stated that she stabbed Sarbandi with a knife when he tried to sexually assault her, but that it was another man in the house who killed Sarbandi. Iranian authorities did not properly investigate the case, and Jabbari was sentenced to death in 2009. Jabbari’s family tried to reach a consensus with Sarbandi’s family but they failed. Therefore they appealed multiple times for justice, but ultimately Jabbari was executed on October 25, 2014. This documentary chronicles the seven years between Jabbari’s imprisonment at the age of nineteen, still in the flower of her youth, to her execution at the age of twenty-six. As with the recent protests against compulsory hijab, Jabbari’s death highlights the current state of human rights issues in the country, so her last words break our hearts. “Don’t wear black for me, forget my troubled days with all your strength, let the wind carry me away.” (CHUN Jinsu)
