Although he began his career in the 1970s with directors such as Steven Spielberg, Brian DePalma, and Martin Scorsese, his writing, not his images are what made Paul SCHRADER known. SCHRADER entered the industry as a critic, became a screenwriter, and later earned a name for himself as a director. His directorial projects so far are irregular but have very vivid traits, rendering him an interesting director of his time. Also, he continues to develop his mastery with each new film he releases. The driving force is his obsession with a type of character that he constantly delves into with slight changes. Like Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, the main character of this film obsessively pours everything into his work, saving himself from his potentially violent temperament. Through this gardener, SCHRADER tells his favorite refrain: the salvation of an anti-hero who, behind a placid exterior, hides a latent violence, that refuses to die. (Sung MOON)
