Director KIM Hee-Jung’s fifth film, Where Would You Like to Go?, is based on a short story of the same name by novelist Kim Ae-ran. The film portrays the time of Myoung-ji after losing her husband, Do-kyeong. He died to an unexpected accident and is left alone. Although the accident was an honorable sacrifice, as her husband drowned while trying to save his pupil, it was still vain suffering for the one left behind, resulting from her life being destroyed in a flash. In the face of irrevocable death, Myoung-ji escapes to Poland, but precious memories, including trivial jokes with Do-kyeong, linger around her. How can we save the left ones and adequately mourn the dead caused by recurrent social disasters and accidents? This film sees hope in the way to remember death and in the people who remember death together. The film believes in the existence of people who will become lifelines to each other with the healing power that comes from one life jumping into another. As poet Koh Jung-hee wrote, “Under the sky, even in a pitch dark night, a hand comes along that we can get hold of.” (Sung MOON)
