Review

Sister Yujeong questions the nature of family, with prominent mystery drama elements. It attempts to look into its core by dissecting family relationships with a delicate scalpel, rather than glossing it over. Yujeong and her younger sister, Kijeong, had a relationship akin to that of mother-and-daughter. Their mother died when Kijeong was born, so Yujeong gave her motherly love. However, as time passes, Kijeong grows up, Yujeong becomes busy, and their relationship becomes distant. Moreover, when Kijeong confesses that she has abandoned an infant she gave birth to, their relationship is put to the ultimate test. Yujeong, who thought she knew her sister well, finds herself in a burden of self-reproach. Yujeong’s efforts to find out the reason for Kijeong’s infant abandonment is the process of discovering who her sister really is, and of thinking seriously about her relationship with her for the first time. Sister Yujeong has a great sense of plot structure, most notably in Yujeong’s relationship with a pregnant patient. (MOON Seok)
