The murderer mentioned in the title committed four murders. His name is Norio Nagayama, and he committed serial murders at the age of 19, which were heavily reported in the media. With experimental music in the background, director Adachi Masao carefully depicts the crime scenes and their context, and the camera shows the protagonist's travels across Japan, from the countryside to the city, as a migrant worker at the peak of the country's economic growth. Paradoxically, the landscapes he encountered were mercilessly uniform, devoid of any unique sense of place or space. A.K.A. Serial Killer is a film that defines landscape theory based on the radical Marxist theory that the visual landscapes that surround us, even the most common and banal ones, are expressions of dominant political power. Critic and scholar Hirasawa Go will share with the audience his experience of participating in the restoration during the digital version screening and lecture on the characteristics of Adachi Masao’s work and the uniqueness of this film. In addition, thanks to the support of the Asia Culture Center, we have an opportunity to compare the differences in media through a 35mm film screening. (Sung MOON)
