Colorful Lin is a film that discusses both literal and figurative discussions about horses. This intriguing story begins when director Lee Wonwoo encountered a horse named "Kkamsang" by chance at Seoul's Cheonggyecheon Stream in 2010. Her interest in horses then evolved through various catalysts, leading her to delve into diverse questions and contemplations within the film. The narrative unfolds, intertwining stories about human modes of transportation, the mobility rights, the ethics of horse labor, the relationship between movement and labor, and the discriminatory relationships historically formed between horses and human. Similar to the director's feature debut, Optigraph (2017), this film adopts a non-linear storytelling approach devoid of the classical narrative, however not aimlessly circling around themes but repeatedly expanding and focusing on specific themes. Two essential phrases encapsulate the core discourse of this film: "Can we coexist without exploiting, restricting, eliminating, or separating?” and "I hope that the weakness of the sensitive and kind can survive from generation to generation.” As a word play, Colorful Lin ultimately speaks (Mal-hada) about horses (Mal), yet it does not merely speak about horses.
