Not many people know this, but Kim Oki, the director, is a renowned saxophone player in the Korean music industry. However, less people know that he's been making many short films that are somewhere between avant-garde and comedy, such as Capoeira Under the Bridge (2021), Serial Lover Boras (2022), and The king of beef jerky (2022). 1, 2, 3 Love is his first feature film, and much like the shorts that preceded it, the film is free from conventional cinematic grammar, and viewers are free to interpret the film in their own way. Director Kim Oki describes the film as a multiverse structure, but depending on the audience, it can be interpreted as a world written by the actor Kim Chunggil or even as someone's dream. Also, aside from Soojeong portrayed by actress Ryu Hyunkyung and the episode of Choi Jong-pil portrayed by director JP LEE, the film does not seem necessarily about love. In that sense, this film is an open form and art across the borders. The saxophone music by Kim Oki that plays throughout the movie is impressive, and the animation with voice acting by Park Hae il and Baek Hyeon-jin is also interesting. (MOON Seok)
