A feature documentary, SEWOL: Years in the Wind, records what has happened in the 10 years following the Sewol ferry disaster through the eyes and hearts of the bereaved families. Co-directed by Moon Jongtaek, Jisung’s dad, who runs a YouTube channel called 416TV with director Kim Hwantae, the film is based on footage filmed by the director Moon Jongtaek himself, using his own camera during those 10 years, or 3,654 days to be exact. The film captures the anger, despair and grief of the bereaved families, from the early days of the disaster, when the government mishandled the rescue operation and refused to reveal the truth, through the time filled with buoyed hope as the Candlelight Revolution brought expectations that the truth would be uncovered and those responsible punished, on to the present day, when nothing has actually been achieved. The title, SEWOL: Years in the Wind, seems to have a dual meaning. It means that these 10 years were a storm-like decade, like a blowing wind(ba-ram) and that the bereaved families have had a single wish(ba-ram). The narration by director Moon Jongtaek at the end of the documentary explains the meaning of the latter ba-ram. "One day, when we meet our children again...We hope we can say that we did everything we could to fine the truth and make the world a bit better. So, we can hold their hands once again...We hope and pray that from the same spot today again." (MOON Seok)
