Angela's diaries - Two Filmmakers. Chapter Three

Director_ Yervant GIANIKIAN, Angela Ricci LUCCHI

Italy 2025 123min DCP Color/B&W feature Documentary
Review

The Angela's diaries series began with its first chapter in 2018, followed by a second a year later, and now concludes as an unintended trilogy, all of which have been presented in the JEONJU International Film Festival. To reflect on the significance of this work, it is worth citing director Yervant Gianikian: "When I started thinking about the first chapter of I diari di Angela, I had no idea that so many private films would eventually become a single body, and that our parallel filmic and written diary would synchronise so precisely. Our artistic life and our real life coincided perfectly." Angela, referenced in the title, is Angela Ricci Lucchi, Gianikian's partner in both life and artistic creation, who passed away in 2018. Together, they built an extensive experimental work, engaging with the realities and sufferings of the world. (Sung MOON)
