This documentary explores the life and work of Barbara Hammer, a pioneering figure in lesbian queer cinema. For over fifty years, Hammer created works focused on women's queer experiences. Yet her legacy should extend beyond that of an artist. Through her work, she kept reflecting on identity and solidarity, as well as presence and absence, positioning herself as both artist and activist. Hammer's films not only trace critical moments in history, including the second-wave feminist movement of the 1970s, the queer movement in San Francisco, and the rise of New Queer Cinema in the 1990s, but also stand as markers of artistic and political movements. Brydie O'Connor's documentary repositions Barbara Hammer within this historical context as an art activist.
