Twelve years in the making with over nine hours of running time, Shoah is a film that seemingly exhausted everything there was to say about its subject. So, what more could possibly be added to it? This was probably the question Guillaume Ribot asked himself when creating the documentary All I Had Was Nothingness. Although it might appear nearly impossible, Ribot succeeds in revealing new dimensions of both the legendary Shoah and its director Claude Lanzmann. Drawing from 220 hours of previously unreleased footage from the original filming and weaving in Lanzmann's autobiographical narrative, he has crafted a documentary that expands upon the legacy of the original work.
