Understanding Movies is formed after the famous introduction to movies of the same name. Is that even possible? The answer to this is what makes this movie interesting.

The protagonist is a serious director. He has to demonstrate all the filmmaking skills he has learned for the past 4 years and paid a hefty tuition for in a graduation film but it is not as easy as he would like. He has conflict with the crew and is now baffled as to what makes a good movie. Then a knight in shining armor appears on the scene: Louis Giannetti.

If the movie appears easier to understand than the book, it is because it applies film theory to actual practice within the setting of a film shoot, unlike the book. However, all kinds of variables occur on the set and making a film does not proceed as it says in the book.
